AI Tracker #12: LeCun's Lobbying Lapses
A lot of high-quality AI safety conversation happens on Twitter. Unfortunately, this leads to great write-ups & content being buried in days. We've set up AI Tracker to aggregate this content.
LeCun’s Battles
Meta’s Chief AI Scientist Yann LeCun has had a lot to say on Twitter this week. The Future of Life Institute’s and MIT’s Max Tegmark weighed in with some questions about French involvement with EU AI Act lobbying.
LeCun’s “Helpful Idiots”
Andrew Critch with his tweet lays out exactly who Lecun’s “Helpful Idiots” are, and… they don’t seem too idiotic! And this is a non-exhaustive list.
Polling Around The World
Polling on AI has been coming thick and fast. Daniel Colson’s AIPI has new polling that shows that the US public wants AI regulations that prevent AI from reaching superhuman capabilities.
And to finish off the EU AI Act flavour of this newsletter, Control AI also had their Europe-wide polling splashed in EuroNews and on their Twitter.
Vitalik’s Manifesto
Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin gave us his manifesto. Here are some highlights that broach AI in his tweet thread.
Jason Crawford of Roots of Progress also gave us his measured thoughts on whether to e/acc or not.
What’re The Odds?
AI Safety Memes hits us with their Vegas-like P(doom) Round Up: all your favourite AI researchers, punters, and the general AI commentariat give their probability of AI killing everyone. It’s not looking pretty.
